Emmett John Sterk, 61, of Lost Nation passed away on July 6, 2016 at the Jackson County Regional Hospital.
His funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation where visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Lahey Funeral Home is assisting the family at this time.
Emmett was born on January 20, 1955 to Ethel (Scott) and Edward Sterk. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. He worked as a carpenter in the Ames area, and was a sub-contractor.
Emmett was an avid reader and loved history novels. He enjoyed collecting old toys and games, and liked to watch Antique Roadshow as well as ISU basketball games. He especially enjoyed Bear Creek fishing, hiking, and spending time with his buddies.
He was an avid gardener and nature lover. He had many birds and deer visit his back yard.
Those left to cherish his memories are his sister Ellen Sterk of Borrego Springs, California, niece Emily (Jayson) Geisler of Rexberg, Idaho, great niece Sydni Geisler, great nephew Jaycob Geisler, aunt Beulah Shannon of Baldwin, uncles; Dale (Lou Jean) Scott of Maquoketa, Larry (Rose) Scott of Anchorage, Alaska, aunt-in-law Betty Scott of Maquoketa, and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorials may be directed to his family in his honor.
