Donald C. Witt, 91 of Delmar died Monday, February 18, 2013, at West Wing Nursing Home in DeWitt, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Delmar. Family and friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Delmar. Donald C. Witt was born October 12, 1921, in Delmar, Iowa to Fred and Augusta (Schroeder) Witt. On December 5, 1942, he was united in marriage to Carmilla Cavanagh in Petersville, Iowa. Donald farmed in Delmar, worked as a Pioneer Seed Dealer, and carried mail. He was on the Delmar School Board and a Charter Member of Delmar Lions Club. He was an avid fan of the Cubs and the Hawkeyes. He loved to fish and attend his grandchildren's sporting events. Donald is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carmilla Witt formerly of Delmar, four children; Patty (Butch) Grant of Delmar, Nancy (Jim) Kettmann of Bellevue, Dan (Melody) Witt of Delmar, Jack Witt of Chicago, twelve grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Pat (Charlene) Cavanagh of Delmar, sister-in-laws; Luella (Russ) Schneden of Davenport, Myrna (Francis) Cavanagh of Maquoketa, and his beloved dog Cody. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Tommy.
