Donald R. Farrell, 79, of Delmar passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa Iowa. His funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Delmar. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa where a Vigil Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Delmar. Donald Richard Farrell was born on March 22, 1936 to James A. "Tad" and Marie M. (Foster) Farrell in Maquoketa, Iowa. He graduated from Delmar High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. On June 3, 1961 he was united in marriage to Mary Jeanette "Jan" Carraher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Delmar. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Delmar, Delmar Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of Maquoketa Country Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, making short stories long, and puttering around on the farm, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandkids and family. Donald was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Jan of Delmar, three children; Rich (Angi) Farrell of Delmar, Robin (Rick) Schaefer of Davenport, Raymond Farrell of Mesa, AZ, 8 grandchildren; Abby Carter, Samantha Ahrens, Brandon Farrell, Kyle Ahrens Eliott, Annie, Grant Schaefer, Megan Hauan, two sisters; Judy Farrell of Marion, Mary (Ed) Noel of Wheatland and two brothers; Gerald Farrell of Delmar and Michael "Mike" Farrell of Davenport. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Kenny and Pat and a daughter Roseanne. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Delmar Volunteer Fire Department in his honor. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.laheys.com.
