Charlene E. "Chuckie" Cavanagh, 85 of Delmar died peacefully Friday at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt, surrounded by her family following a sudden illness. Her family will receive family and friends on Monday from 3 to 8 PM. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. A vigil service will be held at 7:45 PM. Her funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, 10 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Delmar, burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Charlene Hughes was born on September 21, 1928 in Cascade, Iowa daughter of Leo and Mary Picary Hughes. She married Patrick Cavanagh on October 29, 1977 at St. Patrick's in Delmar. She was a teacher, and had worked at Clinton Engines, waitressed at area restraunts, and worked at International Paper in Clinton. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and it's Rosary Society. She loved to crochet and knitting, quilting. Made many of afghans for family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Pat of Delmar, Sisters; Terese Cavanagh, Linda (Jerry) House of Delmar, Sharon (Duane) Keuter, of Iowa City, Brothers; Merlin "Mick" (Virginia) Hughes, of Preston, Tony Hughes of Cuba City,Wisconsin and Mike (Jean) Hughes of Iowa City, Iowa. One sister in Law, Aletha Hughes of Monticello, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her Parents, one sister, Irene, one brother Tom. One brother in law, Bill Cavanagh,a sister in Law; Shirley Hughes, and a brother in law, Wayne Claus.
