Carol J. Bennett, 81, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday May 28, 2015 at Lahey Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa.

Carol Jean was born on February 4, 1934 in Galena, Illinois to Edmond and Charlotte (Falancer) Lyden. She graduated from Galena High School. She was united in marriage on March 22, 1958 to Melvin Bennett in Dubuque, Iowa. He passed away on November 17, 1987. She worked as a waitress at the Decker House and Obie's and later on owned and operated the Country Café in Maquoketa. She enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions. Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters; Deb (Warren) Winegar of Fairbury, Illinois, Diane (Randy) Kinyon of Maquoketa, five grandchildren; Mike (Jenna) Winegar, Nick Winegar, Lindsay (Grant) Gelly, Jake Kinyon, Corporal Tad Kinyon, three great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Waylon Gelly, Kali Winegar, and a special niece Gloria Luckey of Bellevue.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son Dale.
