Ashley Anne Alden, 40, of Clarence, Iowa, formerly of Lost Nation, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by her family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Ashley was born on August 11, 1986, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of John and Gala Alden. She graduated from Midland Community School District with the Class of 2005.
Ashley made her home in Clarence and worked at Clarence Assisted Living.
Ashley was a kind soul with a gentle heart who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed watching classic television shows and had an appreciation for all kinds of music. Ashley also loved taking pictures, capturing the people, places, and moments around her that she wanted to remember.
Those left to cherish her memory include her parents, Gala Alden of Clarence and John Alden of Maquoketa; her paternal grandmother, Helen Alden of Monticello; her aunts and uncles, Randy (Sara) Bicknese of Tucson, Arizona, Lori (Bruce) Petersen of Lost Nation, Jamie (David) Soper of Center Junction, Joe Alden of Monticello, and Cheryl (Russ) Recker of Florida; along with many cherished cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Ashley was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William "Bill" and Ethel Bicknese; her paternal grandfather, Jerald Alden; her sister, Judy L. Putnam; brother-in-law, Terry L. Putnam; aunts, Junella Lange and Julie Meinecke; and uncle, Charles Alden.
A Celebration of Ashley's Life will be held at a later date. Burial will also take place at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Luke's, especially the Ed & Joan Hemphill Inpatient Hospice Unit for their loving, compassionate care they gave to Ashley. Thank you for walking this journey with us.
