Andrew Bellendier, 85, of Maquoketa died on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lahey's Funeral Home in Maquoketa, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:30 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa with Military Honors.
Andrew was born April 7, 1928 in Oelwein, Iowa to Andrew F. and Anna (Kisner) Bellendier. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in Oelwein in 1946. From June 1946 to April 1948 he served in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage on August 30, 1949 to Jacqueline Basten at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, Iowa. He graduated from Loras College in 1951 with a teaching degree. He taught and coached at the Catholic School in Stayeyville, Iowa from 1952 to 1954 and in Cherokee, Iowa from 1954 to 1958.
He worked for Walnut Grove Honegger and Rath Feed Company. Andrew owned and operated Hayes Café and A&W Root Beer and also he managed the Maquoketa Country Club.
He was an active member of the Lions Club and the bowling league. He bar-b-cued chicken for many churches, organizations, and politicians. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, a Script volunteer, Knights of Columbus where he helped with their breakfasts, and was a K.C. volunteer pallbearer. He greatly enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Andrew is survived by his wife Jackie, five children; Michael (Jean) Bellendier of Maquoketa, John (Connie) Bellendier of Maquoketa, Lynne (Pat) Frank of Davenport, Marcia (Randy) Thomann of Coralville, Ann (Steve) Ambrozi of Bettendorf, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother, and one sister.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson David Bellendier in 1988, two brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Hospice of Jackson County.
